So my wife bought the Emerson Action Cam for me as a gift. It was cheap, and to be honest my expectations were not very high for a $40 action camera that I was going to mount on my motorcycle while riding.
So lets be quick and to the point. Is that worth the $40? To be honest thats a much harder question to answer. Take a look at the footage below. The camera when mounted to a motorcycle has a very strong and dominant wobble. And that may be somewhat due to the fact the the camera isn’t all that “wide” in what it captures. Or maybe its just because its a cheap camera. If the footage below is good enough for you then its $40 well spent. On an 8 gig card you can record up to 40 minutes and to be honest I don’t know how much more then that you could record as the internal battery seems to only be able to hold a charge for maybe a little bit longer.
Other then mounting on a motorcycle I really don’t know it would hold up to using it on lets say a bicycle, or surfing or whatever else you would throw at it. The case seems strong and the unit itself is nice and light. If you can find this camera at a store that has a return policy then that would be good so that you can test it out for whatever purpose you have in mind for this device.
As for me … Well I intend to use this camera to record whats happening behind me and to save up and by a GoPro for the front.
So there you have it. The Emerson Action Cam. My recommendation is to Try before you Buy.

So I had a few people ask me about seeing the Pacsafe in action. And so instead of filming my own little video of how this item works, i figured id let the company that actually makes it do all the work.
So here’s the video from Pacsafe about this awesome travelling companion…
So we just returned from our trip to Jamaica. My wife and I were traveling not just for a vacation but to shoot a good friend of mine’s wedding. So needless to say, because of the wedding I was going to be travelling with a fair amount of equipment.
Here was my concern. I had never been to Jamaica, never been to this specific resort, and through my web browsing and review reading, I had seen a fair amount of people concerned or who had experienced theft within their rooms. Now this is not specific to Jamaica, so lets not put those words in my mouth. Theft in hotels/resorts can and do happen anywhere. But I was travelling with a lot of equipment.
Now what you do not see in the above is a 15″ Macbook Pro Retina, which was also being carried in my bag. Needless to say the hotel safe was not going to cut it. But to be completely honest the safe was bigger then i expected.
So what was I going to do. I definitely did not want to have to carry my gear around with me everywhere as for 6 of the 7 days my wife and I were on holidays and wanted to relax. After a bit of searching I came across the PacSafe.
The Pacsafe is a small wire mesh that wraps around your bag. To be completely honest I will never travel with out it as of now. It takes a bit of time to put it on your pack and to lock and unlock the Pacsafe, but its definitely worth it. I never felt that my bag and or contents were at risk. It took an extra 2-5 minutes to put all my gear in the bag and safely lock it. In my opinion money well spent.
The bag after it is secure and wrapped then attaches itself to something secure in your room. Most tables or beds or something in your hotel room is fastened securely and once this is attached to it, your bag is safe. Or at least as safe as its going to be.
Is the mesh indestructible? No. Can it be cut with wire cutters? Probably? But most thefts especially in resorts happen fast. And anything that can deter or make it more difficult is definitely a plus. This cost me about 60ish dollars canadian.
Well worth the money. IF you are travelling this may be something that you might want in and around your bag.
So ive finally received my new Dolica tripod. Haven’t really had the time to give it a vigorous test, but none the less I have played with it.
Anyways because of the videos length I have split the video review into two parts. Please let me know if you have any questions in regards to it.
So Canon has the new 6D and Nikon has the new D600. So when you just look at the specs it kinda looks like the Nikon should completely dominate this competition. But is that how it goes down? Watch the video below to see how the two cameras compare.
So I broke my Sigma 17-70 lens. So So Sad. And it was completely my fault. Any ways I have replace it with a Tamron 17-50 lens. Check out my video below to see what I think of the new lens.
So yesturday I posted a video review of the iOS app Filmic Pro. Once of the features that I really liked was the stabilizer. Now since the video i was showing was being screen captured there was a fair bit of quality loss. So today I went and hooked my iPhone to my mount in my car. Drove around and recorded it, to see how well the stabilizer within Filmic Pro worked. Pretty good indeed. Anyways take a look and let me know what you think.
