I have a little girl who is now 7 years old. I remember getting her a Sony Cybershot 4 megapixel camera for her birthday at the age of 3 (i think). It was an open box, end of life camera that cost me $40. But it was a real camera. Nothing made by Fisher Price. This was a camera that could actually take pretty good little pictures and it was hers. She carried it around every where. We now have a large amount of pictures of her fingers, pictures of the tv, pictures of her feet, and so on. But we also have some fantastic photos that were taken by her that I couldn’t or just didn’t get while the two of us where out. So what am i getting at? Well my little one is now 7 and she has had her own camera(s) for 4ish years now. And at the age of 7 she can compose fairly well, she doesn’t cut off peoples heads and so on. Firstly that makes me feel awesome!! But mostly it makes her feel awesome!! Its a creative outlet for her, and its something that she gets to do with me, which we both love.
So read this article that i came across and get your kids interested in photography. They might never be great at it, but even if that gets the two of you out doing stuff together, that should be worth it!!!
